Mancala challenge
Demetria Tucker, senior librarian, family and youth services at Newport News (Va.) Public Library, explains the game rules for the Mancala Challenge to Donta Gooden at the Pearl Bailey branch February 27. Youth from the ages of 8 to 18 participated in the tournament in honor of Black History Month. Gooden won the first-place certificate, a book about President Barack Obama, and his own mancala board. Mancala is a traditional African game in which players move stones along a wooden game board.
