Recommended Websites for Librarians
Q. I know that ALA has the Great Web Sites for Kids and my library gives copies of Social Networking: A Guide for Teens to all of our young adult visitors. Is there a list of web sites ALA points to for librarians to use?
A. There is a section of the ALA Recommended Websites page by the ALA Library called For Librarians, Trustees, and Educators, which includes links to such resources as the Best Websites for Teaching and Learning lists created by ALA’s American Association of School Librarians (AASL, a division of ALA), both the Top 25 Websites for Teaching and Learning and the Landmark Websites for Teaching and Learning. Other resources include the sometimes overlooked section of Great Web Sites for Kids, the Sites for Parents, Caregivers, Teachers & Others; the longtime ALA Library Fact Sheet 29 - Links to Library Web Resources; the more recent E-Government Toolkit; and the RDA: Resource Description and Access Toolkit with its video archive of the RDA Toolkit — A Guided Tour Webinar.
There’s a direct link to the extensive Technology Made Simple: An Improvement Guide for Small and Medium Libraries Web Extra by Kimberly Bolan and Rob Cullin. And those looking for library websites to emulate can look to the winners list for the “Best of Show” for Library’s Web Page/Home Page of the Library Leadership Administration and Management Association’s Public Relations and Marketing Section (LLAMA PRMS) Swap & Shop or the College Library Web Site of the Month chosen by the College Libraries Section of ALA’s Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL, a division of ALA).

Recommended websites for librarians
The suggested website lists on the ALA website are great resources! Also, take a look at the lists I’ve compiled for the LIS Virtual Library at the University of Illinois:

I’ll be working with a practicum student from the Graduate School of Library & Information Science to update and expand the listings this spring. I’d appreciate any suggestions for favorite sites to add or other topics to cover.

Sue! Thank you so much for
Sue! Thank you so much for your comment and link to your resources over at UIUC. I urge library students and current library workers alike to view your LIS Virtual Library!
