Nominating committee continues to seek candidates

CHICAGO - The American Library Association (ALA) 2013 Nominating Committee reminds all interested ALA members that the deadline for completing the candidate biographical form is quickly approaching – the form will close on Aug. 17.  The committee is soliciting nominees to run on the 2013 spring ballot for the offices of ALA president-elect, ALA treasurer and councilor-at-large.

ALA Council resolution opposes voter restrictions

ANAHEIM, Calif. – The American Library Association (ALA) Council has passed a resolution opposing voter restrictions.

The resolution, passed at the ALA Annual Conference, held June 21-26 in Anaheim, Calif., opposes voter ID laws, restrictions on voter registration, cuts to early voting and any other laws resulting in the restriction of lawful access to voting.

ASCLA elects Sara G. Laughlin, public library director, to division vice-president/president-elect role

<p> CHICAGO--Sara Gaar Laughlin, director of the Monroe County (Ind.) Public Library and longtime member of ALA and the <a href="http://www.ala.org/ascla">Association of Specialized and Cooperative Library Agencies (ASCLA)</a>, will serve as the next vice-president/president-elect of ASCLA, the division of ALA that serves consultants, special populations librarians, state library agencies, and library networks, cooperatives and consortia, while promoting universal access to libraries and library services.</p>

Kern elected vice-president/president-elect of RUSA

<p> CHICAGO&mdash;M. Kathleen Kern, reference librarian at the University of Illinois, has won election to the post of vice-president/president-elect of the <a href="http://www.ala.org/rusa">Reference and User Services Association (RUSA)</a>, the division of ALA representing librarians and library staff in the fields of reference, specialized reference, collection development, adult readers&rsquo; advisory and resource sharing.</p>

Rod Wagner 2012-2013 ALTAFF vice president/president-elect

PHILADELPHIA — Rod Wagner, director of the Nebraska Library Commission, has been elected 2012-2013 vice president/president-elect of the Association of Library Trustees, Advocates, Friends and Foundations (ALTAFF), a division of the American Library Association (ALA).

ALA councilors elected

CHICAGO — Thirty-three members have been elected as councilors-at-large on the Council of the American Library Association (ALA) for three-year terms. The terms begin at the conclusion of the 2012 ALA Annual Conference in Anaheim, Calif. and extend through the end of the 2015 ALA Annual Conference in San Francisco.
