Green Libraries: Gwinnett County (Ga.) Public Library, Hamilton Mill Branch

Gwinnett County (Ga.) Public Library, Hamilton Mill Branch

The projects featured in this section each exhibit interesting approaches to sustainability.

Major building components at Gwinnett County (Ga.) Public Library’s Hamilton Mill branch were selected for their environmental attributes, including brick made from recycled materials and a reflective metal roof. The building is situated to take advantage of natural light while minimizing the amount of harsh direct sunlight that enters the space, and the site features bioswales that remove pollution from runoff water, native landscaping, and pervious paving that allows rainwater to seep into the ground through pavement.

Hamilton Mill Library Opening

We are proud to announce that the Hamilton Mill Library will have our opening for the public on April 24, 2010 followed by the traditional Ribbon Cutting Progarm/Ceremony on Saturday, May 8th at 1 PM

nice building

Yes, the Hamilton Mill branch of the Gwinnett County Public Library system is a beautiful and environmentally friendly building; however, its not much of a library because despite having been finished for nearly a year, the $7.4 million dollar price tag has not benefited the public one blue cent because it is still not open and has no books on the shelves.

But its a beautiful building!  :)

The library was always

The library was always scheduled to open in the winter of 2010.  The ground breaking ceremony was on Oct 21, 2008.  Thus it has not be finished for nearly a year.  Plus think of all the library has gone through in the last 9 months with the budget cuts and trying to find a way to open this building without any extra funding from the county.

In response...

Yes, but it is opening on April 24th, 2010, so you’ll be in it soon enough!

The building has not been

The building has not been finished for a year! That is an erroneous statement. Yes it will likely open a couple of months later than originally planned, but not a year.
