Libraries in Harmony: Houston Public Library, Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research

Houston Public Library, Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research

While not necessarily part of a building proper, the landscaping of a library has a big impact on the user’s experience. It can also have a big impact on the greenness of a construction project by reducing pollution and promoting biodiversity.

The landscaping around Houston Public Library’s renovated Clayton Library Center for Genealogical Research uses brick and plants that would have been available in Houston in 1917, when the former home that the library occupies was built. The green space was planned to regain the charm of a southern heritage garden.
