Code Year Librarians Geek Out

Printer-friendly versionPrint

One of the quickly organized conversations at Midwinter this year was the Code Year Meetup, which took place Monday morning in the Networking Uncommons.

Code Year is a free online Javascript course offered by Codeacademy. Andromeda Yelton formed a group in ALA Connect so participants can support each other as they progress through the course. She also secured signatures on a petition to form an interest group within LITA, possibly cosponsored with ALCTS.

Participants discussed future programming possibilities, including coding sessions and classes at Annual; a wish list of resources; and ways to consolidate information. They also shared their challenges and experiences with the class so far.

Participating librarians can also see the CatCode Wiki for information, including a resources list.

See an interview with Yelton and CatCode Wiki founder Shana McDanold at www.youtube.com/watch?v=GU8goSzZTc0.

minor correction

Just a minor correction, my last name is McDanold. Yes, it’s weird. Yes, it’s wrong all the time.

How fun seeing this in

How fun seeing this in American Libraries! I want to make sure to recognize our prospective interest group’s cochair, Carli Spina, who did the work of coordinating the meetup. I also want to invite anyone who’s interested in learning to code to join the Connect group and the wiki, and the IG when it exists — I submitted the paperwork today and will be announcing to the Connect group when it comes through.

Well credited,

Well credited, Andromeda-thanks!
