IRRT supports Emerging Leader Valeria Gallo-Stampino

CHICAGO - IRRT is delighted to announce that Valeria Gallo-Stampino has been selected as the 2012 IRRT candidate in ALA’s Emerging Leaders program.  Valerie will receive a small award from IRRT to assist with the program costs.

Valeria currently works as a librarian at the Online Information & News Division in the busy Central Branch of the Vancouver Public Library (Canada). Previously, she worked as Science & Business Librarian and as Community Engagement Librarian at the same organization. Before that she was acting coordinator of the Family Resource Library at BC Children’s Hospital and worked on free-lance Web projects. Valeria received her Master of Library and Information Studies from University of British Columbia and a Bachelor (Honor) of Communication Studies from University of Buenos Aires.

Born and raised in Argentina, she brings to the International Relations Round Table a diverse background and life experience that adequately fits with ALA diversity objectives. From the early stages of her career as librarian, Valeria has identified the importance of leadership in our profession and has made a commitment to taking the necessary steps to develop herself as a leader. Participating in professional associations was a great mechanism to accomplish this. Before joining ALA, she was the president of the Special Libraries Association Student Chapter and she also participated in activities of the Canadian Library Association. Valeria is currently pursuing a graduate certificate on Public Sector Leadership at the University of Victoria.

As part of her increasing ALA involvement, she has recently joined the International Relations Round Table as co-chair of the International Papers & Projects Committee. Valeria believes that her involvement in ALA/IRRT, together with her experience in the Emerging Leaders Program, will provide her with additional opportunities to be part of an international conversation that will help to move forward our profession.
