Join ALA and Your State Library Association Today through the Joint Membership Program
Today is the perfect day to join ALA and your state library association through one of three joint memberships: Joint Student, Joint Library Support Staff, or Joint Trustee Membership.
Today is the perfect day to join the American Library Association and your state library association, especially since ALA offers three categories of joint memberships: Joint Student Membership, Joint Library Support Staff Membership, and Joint Trustee Membership.
Currently—from now through August 31, 2013—21 Chapters (aka state library associations) have partnered with ALA to offer students the opportunity to join them and ALA for one low price of $35. Eight have partnered with ALA to offer library support staff the opportunity to join them and ALA for one low price of $65. Five have partnered with ALA and United for Libraries to offer trustees a Joint Trustee Membership. Trustees new to ALA and the Chapter can join three great organizations—ALA, United for Libraries, and their state library association—for only $100, a 30 percent discount.
Support Your Libraries!: Join Your State Library Association Today points out many excellent reasons why you should join your state library association, including receiving discounts for attending your state association’s annual conference and networking with other students, librarians, and library workers.
As importantly, it’s not only a good time to join, with budget cuts and worse directed at libraries in many states, it’s also imperative—now more than ever—to support your state library association’s efforts to advocate for and support libraries, librarians, and library workers within your state.
If you need more reasons to join, please feel free to contact your state library association. Each can explain their numerous membership benefits in greater detail than possible here!
Student membership is a special discounted membership available for students engaged in a program of study or certification in MLS/ MLIS, NCATE, or LTA programs for no more than 5 total years of eligibility. This special dues rate is designed to help you access the benefits, networking, and career resources that come with membership. Student Members, whether full- or part-time, are also given the best rates for conference registration, often at discounts as high as 75 percent off. Student Members are eligible to serve on committees, run for office, and participate actively in the work of the association.
Membership in ALA is open to all librarians, library workers, trustees, friends of libraries, and library supporters; libraries and other non-profits; and corporations that serve the library community in the United States and abroad. You are invited to join ALA as a Personal, Organizational, or Corporate member.
For more information about joint memberships, contact the ALA Chapter Relations Office.
